There are a number of accessories available for the PS3, including wireless controllers, memory card adaptors and remote controls.

SIXAXIS Controller

The main controller for the PS3 is the SIXAXIS wireless controller, based on the original PlayStation device. The newly designed controller features highly sensitive motion-sensing technology that detects movements in the full six degrees, enabling players to use the controller as a natural extension of their body.

The unit also uses Bluetooth technology for wireless gameplay (up to 7 controllers can be supported at one time) and may also be plugged into the console via the USB port for charging and wired play.

The shape and sensitivity of the L2 and R2 button have been changed to give an increased depth in stroke for more subtle control in games, and the tilting angle of the analogue joy sticks has been slightly broadened to allow for more dynamic and delicate manipulation. In addition, a PS button has been added to the centre of the controller to access the home menu and turn the console on or off. However, unlike the previous DualShock, the new controller has no vibration (rumble) feature.

Memory Card Adaptor

The PlayStation 3 Memory Card Adaptor is a device that allows players to transfer game save data between PlayStation and PlayStation 2 memory cards to the PlayStation 3's hard disk. The device connects to the PS3's USB port on one end, and features a legacy PS2 memory card port on the other end.

Blu-Ray Remote Control

This remote control device enables players to control videos and music on Blu-ray Disc, DVD and CD. However, unlike standard infra-red remotes, the PS3 device uses Bluetooth technology, which means that it can be used without having to point directly at the PS3 console.
