Puzzle Games Puzzle games are video games that require the player to navigate complex locations such as mazes, solve logic puzzles or find hidden objects. Popular puzzle games include: - Lemmings (the player must guide a group of lemmings home, helping them to avoid dangers such as traps, lava and deep pit).
- Minesweeper (the player must clear a minefield (a grid of squares) of a certain number of mines by using logic).
- Bomberman (the player must complete the maze-based levels by strategically placing bombs in order to kill enemies and destroy obstacles).
Variants of this genre include games such as Tetris, in which blocks must be rotated as they fall from the top of the screen in order to create a horizontal line of blocks without gaps. This gameplay departs from the general definition of puzzle games as success mainly depends on quick reflexes and hand-eye coordination rather than thought and logic. The top-selling puzzle game (as of 2008) is Tetris (Game Boy - 33 million). |
